It was founded at the beginning of the 19th century and named for Jared Mansfield. It is the seat of Richland County. It is served by Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport, Interstate 71 and U.S. Routes 30 and 42. The city is famous as a filming location for The Shawshank Redemption. It was filmed at the Ohio State Reformatory, a historical place museum. It was also used as a filming location in Air Force One and Tango & Cash.
