Serving as the seat of Claiborne County, Port Gibson is a historic city in Mississippi, United States, situated on Bayou Pierre, a tributary of the Mississippi River. The city was settled by French colonists in 1729. It is one of the oldest settlements in Mississippi. It has a few places that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also has a key role in the history of blues music. It is home to two markers on the Mississippi Blues Trail: Lil Green and Rabbit Foot Minstrels. Port Gibson was also home to The Chamberlain-Hunt Academy, a private boarding school, founded in 1879 and closed in 2014. Historical landmarks in the city include Bayou Pierre Presbyterian Church and the site of the Battle of Port Gibson.
