New South Wales, Australia

New South Wales is one of the six states of Australia, located on the eastern coast of the country and facing the southwestern waters of the Pacific Ocean. The state borders Victoria to the south, Queensland to the north, and South Australia to the west. Along its eastern coastline, New South Wales faces the Coral Sea and the Tasman Sea. Australia’s largest city, Sydney, is located in New South Wales and also serves as the state’s capital. The total area of New South Wales is about 810,000 square kilometers, making it one of the larger states in the country. By population, however, New South Wales is the most populous state in Australia.

More than two-thirds of the state’s residents live in the Greater Sydney area, which is the largest urban region on the continent. The first European settlers arrived in what is now New South Wales in the late 18th century, mainly from Britain. At that time, the territory of NSW was much larger, but over the years it was reduced to its current size.

New South Wales is a major tourist destination, offering a wide variety of attractions. The state is known for its long stretches of clean beaches with good facilities, accommodation options for all budgets, vast green areas, and natural features such as waterfalls, caves, and other scenic landscapes. Sydney is especially famous for its many landmarks, from the iconic Sydney Opera House to busy shopping districts and restaurants that are always filled with locals and visitors from around the world.
