Oklahoma is a state in the southern region of the United States, located directly north of Texas. The total area of Oklahoma is estimated at about 70,000 square miles. The state shares its borders with Arkansas and Missouri to the east, Kansas and Colorado to the north, New Mexico to the west, and Texas to the south. It includes areas known for their historical significance as some of the earliest inhabited regions of the country.

Oklahoma is well known for its diverse culture, large oil and natural gas reserves, numerous industrial and agricultural centers, and a climate that can be changeable and sometimes quite harsh. Oklahoma City is both the capital and the largest city in the state. It is located in the central part of Oklahoma and serves as the core of a large metropolitan area that includes Norman, Edmond, Moore, and several smaller cities.

The terrain of Oklahoma is varied, with mountainous regions as well as lowlands, dry plains, and prairies. The eastern part of the state is the greenest and includes national forest areas such as the Ouachita National Forest along the border with Arkansas. The northeastern part of the state is crossed by the Arkansas River, which flows near the Tulsa metropolitan area, the second-largest in Oklahoma.
