Oklahoma City is the capital and the largest city of the state of Oklahoma, located in the south-central part of the United States. Together with neighboring cities such as Shawnee, Edmond, Norman, and a few others, Oklahoma City forms a large metropolitan area, one of the largest in the region. The city covers an area of approximately 400 square miles, and its downtown area is situated in the central part of the metropolitan zone.

Oklahoma City is located in the central part of the state, about 200 miles north of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area in Texas. Interstates 35, 40, 44, and 240 serve the city. The city lies near the geographic transition between the southern and central United States. It is situated close to the Sandstone Hills region, which lies northwest of the downtown districts.

The city center is crossed by the Oklahoma River, with the downtown area located on its northern banks. Several small lakes are also found within the metropolitan area. Tourist attractions include the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Frontier City, and Scissortail Park. Will Rogers World Airport is located in the southwestern part of the city.
