Røros, Norway: Filming Location of Home for Christmas

Røros is a snowy yet charming town in Norway, located about 368 kilometers north of Oslo, the capital city. This small town lies on the banks of the Hyttelva River, within Røros Municipality, and serves as its administrative centre. Røros is served by Røros Train Station and was founded as a mining town in 1646.

Today, it is a small, traditional, and peaceful town, known for its well-preserved old buildings and historic atmosphere. In 1980, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the official name Røros Mining Town and the Circumference. Among its historic landmarks, Røros Church, the main church of the parish, dates back to the 18th century and is listed as a Norwegian Cultural Heritage Site.

One of the most famous attractions in Røros is Rørosmartnan, a five-day festival held every February. The event attracts thousands of visitors and offers a wide variety of local foods, traditional crafts, and other regional products.

Røros gained even more international fame after the release of the romantic comedy television series Home for Christmas. Many of the Netflix series’ winter scenes were filmed in the town, further highlighting its cozy and picturesque atmosphere.
