Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel

Tel Aviv-Yafo is one of the largest cities in Israel, the largest resort city, and one of the most important tourist destinations in the Middle East. The city is located in the northwestern coastal part of the country. It faces the Mediterranean Sea and marks one of the easternmost coasts of the sea. Tel Aviv lies in the lowlands and has a very interesting location, situated on the broad border between three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa. The city is about 45 miles northwest of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.

Proximity to Other Locations

The distance between Tel Aviv and the Dead Sea is about 55 miles, and the distance to the city of Amman is approximately 70 miles. The Gaza Strip is located about 65 miles southwest of Tel Aviv.

Metropolitan Area and Neighborhoods

A large metropolitan zone, the city of Yafo (Jaffa), is located south of Tel Aviv city center. Together with its numerous neighborhoods and towns on the outskirts, Tel Aviv forms the metropolitan area known as Gush Dan, covering an area of about 600 square miles. Nearby districts include Petah Tikva, Ramat Gan, Holon, Bnei Brak, Bat Yam, Yehud, Sarona, Rishon LeTsiyon, and many more.

The Yarkon River passes through the northern part of the city, with the main green area located just a mile north of the city center. Two important coastal cities and resorts, Ashkelon and Ashdod, are situated to the south of Tel Aviv in Israel’s southern coastal region.
