Alice, nicknamed The Hub City of South Texas, is a city in Texas, as well as the seat of Jim Wells County. Located in the central part of the county and 45 miles west of Corpus Christi, the city was founded in 1888. Formerly called Bandana, it received its current name after the daughter of Richard King, who established the largest range in the country. Alice is also known as the birthplace of Tejano music. The city's economy is mainly based on the oil industry. There are lots of oil field companies around the city. Alice Airport is situated in the eastern part of the city. U.S. Route 281 also serves the area. Local attractions include Lake Findley Park, Veterans Plaza Park, Alice Multi Use Complex/ Natatorium & Waterpark, Alice Municipal Golf Course, and lots of stores.
