Hood River, Oregon, USA

Hood River is a city in Oregon, United States, located in the Columbia River Gorge along the border with Washington. It sits in the northern part of the state, about 30 miles north of Mount Hood and 73 miles northeast of Portland. Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 30 pass through the city, providing connections to nearby towns and cities, and it is also served by Ken Jernstedt Airfield. Hood River is the county seat of Hood River County.

Known as the “Windsurfing Capital of the World”, Hood River was incorporated in 1895 and takes its name from a nearby tributary of the Columbia River, once called Dog River. Thanks to its location along the Columbia River, the city is a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Hood River Waterfront Park features a scenic beach and offers a great setting not only for outdoor sports but also for relaxing and enjoying the incredible views. The park is family-friendly, with a playground, picnic areas, and walking trails.

The city is also known for its craft beer and is home to several related companies, including Full Sail Brewing Company. Koberg Beach State Recreation Site, located east of the city, provides opportunities for camping and swimming along the river and is easily accessible via Interstate 84.

Hood River has several museums and historic sites, such as the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM). The city was once home to the International Museum of Carousel Art (IMCA), which operated from 1983 to 2007. The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a historic building, located at 9000 Westcliffe Drive. Built between 1920 and 1921 and designed by Morris H. Whitehouse, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 21, 1979.
