Wewoka is a small city in Oklahoma, United States, located halfway between Holdenville and Seminole. It serves as the seat of Seminole County and was founded by John Coheia in 1849. The city is also home to the headquarters of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Major roads serving Wewoka include U.S. Route 270, as well as Oklahoma State Highways 56 and 59. The city is just 12 miles from Seminole, which is home to Seminole State College, established in 1931.
Wewoka offers several recreational attractions, including Wewoka Lake and Sportsman Lake, both providing a variety of activities and amenities. The city also features historic buildings and sites, such as the Seminole County Courthouse at 120 South Wewoka Street, built in 1927 and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 1984.
