Tahlequah, OK, USA

Tahlequah is a city in Oklahoma, United States, located in Cherokee County, about 80 miles southeast of Tulsa. Situated at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the city was founded in 1838. It has served as the capital of the Cherokee Nation and the seat of Cherokee County. Residents speak both Cherokee and English.

The city is home to Northeastern State University, a public university founded in 1909 as Northeastern State Normal School. It is known as the oldest university in the state. Tahlequah is also home to the Cherokee Immersion School.

Tahlequah has several historic buildings and sites, along with museums, parks, and other points of interest. The Cherokee Supreme Court Building, listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, now operates as a museum. Built in 1844, it is located at the intersection of Keetoowah Street and Water Avenue. The Cherokee National History Museum, located at 101 South Muskogee Avenue, is also a U.S. National Historic Landmark. It is housed in a former tribal government building constructed in 1867 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.

The city is served by U.S. Route 62 and Oklahoma State Highways 51, 82, and 51B.
