It was originally inhabited by Poquonocks, settled in 1660, and incorporated on May 28, 1835. Bloomfield has a total area of 26.3 square miles. The town is bordered by West Hartford - Hartford to the south, East Granby to the north, Windsor to the northeast, Simsbury - Avon to the west.
