Halifax, North Carolina: The Birthplace of Freedom

Halifax is a small town in North Carolina, United States, located within Halifax County on the Roanoke River. The city was founded in 1757 and named after George Montagu-Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax. Halifax Northampton Regional Airport and U.S. Route 301 serve the area. It has many historical buildings and sites, such as Halifax State Historic Site, Historic Halifax Underground Railroad Site, North Carolina Constitution Historical Marker, Historic Halifax - Tap Room, Historic Halifax - Sally-Billy House, Eagle Tavern, Charters of Freedom, William R Davie House, Historic Halifax Burgess Law Office, and Halifax Mural - Napoleon Hill. The city, often called "The Birthplace of Freedom," is recognized as the site where the Halifax Resolves were adopted on April 12, 1776—the first official act of a colony calling for independence.
