Kitty Hawk is a resort town in eastern North Carolina, United States, situated within Dare County, on Bodie Island. Located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, near the Atlantic Ocean, the town was incorporated in 1981. It is a tourist destination with lots of attractions, including Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Reserve, Sandy Run Park, Kitty Hawk Pier, Wright Brothers Garage Monument, Wright Brothers Mural, Monument to a Century of Flight, and Sea Scape Golf Links. The town has a few historic buildings, such as the Kitty Hawk Life-Saving Station, which was built in 1874 and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1984. U.S. Route 158 and North Carolina Highway 12 serve the town.
Kill Devil Hills, located south of Kitty Hawk, was the site of the Wright brothers' first controlled powered flights on December 17, 1903.
