Originally opened as Madison Stadium on September 20, 1975, it has served as the home of the James Madison University Dukes football team ever since. The stadium is owned and operated by James Madison University and was known as JMU Stadium between 1981 and 1989. It has a seating capacity of 24,877. The stadium underwent major renovations and expansion in 2009 and reopened in 2011. The first game following the expansion was played on September 10, 2011, between the Dukes and the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils, with an attendance of 25,102 spectators. The record attendance was set on October 28, 2023, during a game between James Madison and Old Dominion.
