Canonsburg is a borough in Pennsylvania, United States, located within Washington County and 21 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. It is bordered by Houston, Cecil Township, North Strabane Township, and Chartiers Township. Founded in 1791, named after John Canon, and incorporated in 1802, it was the capital of the local coal industry. From 1911 to 1922, Canonsburg was home to the Standard Chemical Company, the first commercial producer of radium in the United States. The town of Canonsburg was also home to Black Horse Tavern, a historic tavern opened in 1794 and demolished in 1910. The place is known as the birthplace of the Whiskey Rebellion.
