Carson City, nicknamed The Capitol, CC, or Carson, is an independent city in Nevada, United States, located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, near the state border with California and 32 miles south of Reno. It serves as the capital of the state. The city was founded in 1858, incorporated in 1875, and named after Christopher Houston Carson, an American frontiersman. The area was originally inhabited by the Washoe people. Carson Airport, Interstate 580, Nevada State Route 28, and U.S. Routes 50 and 395 serve the area. The city is home to Western Nevada College. It is one of the most populous cities in Nevada and is home to numerous points of interest.
