Carson City: The Capital of Nevada

Carson City, nicknamed The Capitol, CC, or Carson, is an independent city in Nevada, United States, located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, near the state border with California and 32 miles south of Reno. It serves as the capital of the state. The city was founded in 1858, incorporated in 1875, and named after Christopher Houston Carson, an American frontiersman. The area was originally inhabited by the Washoe people. Carson Airport, Interstate 580, Nevada State Route 28, and U.S. Routes 50 and 395 serve the area. The city is home to Western Nevada College. It is one of the most populous cities in Nevada and is home to numerous points of interest.

- The Nevada State Museum, Carson City, founded in 1941, features exhibits on the history of Nevada, such as the Historic Carson City Mint. The museum is situated at 600 N Carson Street.
- The Nevada State Capitol is the capitol building of the state, located at 101 North Carson Street. It was built in the Neoclassical Italianate style in 1871, designed by Joseph Gosling. It has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since June 10, 1975. The building is also Nevada Historical Marker No. 25.
- The Nevada State Railroad Museum, situated at 2180 S Carson Street, features exhibits on the railroad history of Nevada. It was opened to the public in 1980, originally known as the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Museum. Its collection includes historic trains and cars.
- St. Charles-Muller's Hotel or as the St. Charles Hotel, located at 302-304-310 S. Carson Street, is a historic hotel in Carson City. It was built in 1862 and is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
- The Nevada Governor's Mansion at 606 Mountain Street is the official residence of the governor of Nevada. It was built in 1909 and designed by George A. Ferris in the Classical Revival style. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
- The Stewart Indian School, built in 1890, is a historic building designed by Frederick Snyder in the Colonial Revival style. It is a U.S. Historic district and was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Today, the building serves as the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum.
- The Sears–Ferris House, at 311 W Third Street, is a historic house which was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on February 9, 1979. It is also known as the G. W. G. Ferris House.
- Lake Tahoe–Nevada State Park, founded in 1958, is a popular tourist destination in Carson City. It has an area of 14,301 acres (5,787 ha). It is home to the Marlette Lake Water System, which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
- The Tahoe Rim Trail, established in 1981, is a 165-mile hiking trail. It loops around Lake Tahoe and offers opportunities for backpacking, hiking, and biking.
- Washoe Lake State Park, established in 1977, is another popular destination for those who love outdoor activities like picnicking, boating, hiking, and camping. It is located on the southeast shore of Washoe Lake.
