The seat of Coahoma County, Clarksdale is a city in northwestern Mississippi, United States, situated on the banks of the Sunflower River, 76 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee, and 146 miles southeast of Little Rock, Arkansas. U.S. Highways 49 and 278 pass through the city. Known as the Golden Buckle on the Cotton Belt, Clarksdale was named after John Clark who founded the city in the Mississippi Delta.

The city is known as the home of the Blues and many legendary musicians including Muddy Waters. Delta Blues Museum features exhibits on the history of the blues and highlights key figures in blues history. Based in a historic train depot, the museum offers various programs. Other points of interest in Clarksdale are Cutrer Mansion, the Blues Crossroads, New Roxy, Delta Cinema, the Clarksdale Walk of Fame, and the Mississippi Blues Trail. The city is home to Coahoma Community College, founded in 1949. There are numerous musicians and notable people from the city, such as playwright Tennessee Williams, musicians John Lee Hooker, Sam Cooke, Ike Turner, and Frank Stokes. Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman also lived in Clarksdale.
