Colorado is one of the central states of the United States, bordering Wyoming, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. The state is known as the “Mother of Rivers” and the “Rocky Mountain Empire,” as much of its western territory is covered by highlands and mountainous terrain. In contrast, the eastern part of Colorado lies within the lowlands and includes plains that form part of the Great Plains region in central North America.

Colorado covers an area of nearly 270,000 square miles, and its capital and largest city is Denver. The state is famous for its beautiful cities, rich and winding history, numerous tourist attractions, unique local culture, and the strong passion of its residents for sports. The state’s name comes from the Colorado River, which flows through the region. The river was named “the Colorful” by European settlers who observed its differently colored waters flowing down from the Rocky Mountains. Residents of Colorado are known as Coloradans or Coloradoans.

The eastern and western parts of the state differ significantly, not only in altitude but also in culture and lifestyle. Colorado is widely known for its impressive number of natural reserves and national parks, such as Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Mesa Verde National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado National Monument, Chimney Rock National Monument, and many others.
