Ferguson, nicknamed "Community of Choice", is a city and part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States, located near the Mississippi River and to the east of St. Louis Lambert International Airport. The city is situated about 13 miles northwest of St. Louis. Founded in 1855 and incorporated in 1894, the city is located near the state border with Illinois. It was home to the headquarters of Emerson Electric till February 2025. Ferguson elected Ella Jones as its first African American and female mayor on June 2, 2020. Interstate 270 passes through the city.
