Ferris State University is a public university located in Big Rapids, Michigan, United States. Its main campus is situated at 1201 S. State Street, near the Muskegon River, and covers an area of 880 acres. The campus is easily accessible via U.S. Route 131. The university is located in the southern part of the city, approximately 55 miles north of Grand Rapids, where it also operates a satellite campus.
Established on September 1, 1884, as the Big Rapids Industrial School, Ferris State University offers both two- and four-year degree programs through eight colleges, as well as graduate and professional programs. These include the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, the College of Business, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, the Michigan College of Optometry, and the Kendall College of Art and Design.
The university features several points of interest, including a student recreation center, a museum, and various athletic facilities such as the R.L. Ewigleben Sports Complex and Top Taggart Field. The Ferris State Bulldogs are the university’s athletic teams and compete in NCAA Division II. Top Taggart Field serves as the home field for the Ferris State Bulldogs football team.
