Tulane University is a private research university located in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Its main campus is situated at 6823 St. Charles Avenue in the Uptown section of New Orleans. The university was established as the Medical College of Louisiana in 1834 and was known as the University of Louisiana between 1847 and 1884. It is a historic campus that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since March 24, 1978. The campus features numerous historic buildings and beautiful old live oak trees. The university is easily accessible via the St. Charles at Tulane University Tram Stop.
There are many points of interest on campus, including the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane, Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse, McAlister Auditorium, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, Turchin Stadium, and Yulman Stadium. The vast Audubon Park is located near the campus and offers hiking areas, biking paths, picnic areas, tennis courts, playgrounds, a fountain, and a golf course in a peaceful environment. The Tulane Green Wave are the athletic teams of the university, competing in NCAA Division I. Yulman Stadium is the home venue for the Tulane Green Wave football team.
Tulane University offers undergraduate, graduate (master’s and doctoral), and professional degree programs through its colleges and schools, including Newcomb-Tulane College, the School of Architecture and Built Environment, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, and the A. B. Freeman School of Business.
Notable alumni include Pulitzer Prize winner Shirley Ann Grau, novelist John Kennedy Toole, Yahoo! co-founder David Filo, activist Ashley Biden, and actress Lauren Hutton, among others.
The Pelican Brief, a 1993 movie starring Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington, was filmed at Tulane University.
