Purdue University in West Lafayette

Purdue University is a public research university located in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, at 610 Purdue Mall. Founded in 1869 by John Purdue and originally named Indiana Agricultural College, it has grown into the largest university by student population in the state. Purdue University is known for its pioneering achievements, including launching the world’s first computer science program and opening the first university-owned airport in the U.S.

The university has an impressive list of notable alumni. These include Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the Moon; Nobel Prize winners Akira Suzuki, Edward Mills Purcell, and Ben Roy Mottelson; Pulitzer Prize winners John T. McCutcheon and Booth Tarkington; former Prime Minister of Egypt Essam Sharaf; former president of the RAND Corporation James Thomson; legendary basketball coach John Wooden; and journalist Brian Lamb.

The Purdue University campus is located near the Wabash River, about 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis, and is accessible via U.S. Route 52. The campus is home to many attractions and historic landmarks, such as the 160-foot-tall Purdue Bell Tower, the Engineering Fountain, the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center, Jules Janick Horticulture Garden, Elliott Hall of Music, Mackey Arena, and the Boilermaker Station Welcome Center. Ross-Ade Stadium, located at 850 Steven Beering Drive, serves as the home field of the NCAA Purdue Boilermakers football team. Opened in 1924, the stadium has a seating capacity of 61,441.

Purdue University offers many undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its academic colleges, including the College of Engineering, the Daniels School of Business, the College of Pharmacy, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
