Campbell University is a private university located in Buies Creek, central North Carolina, United States. The main campus is situated at 143 Main Street, approximately 35 miles north of Fayetteville and 30 miles south of Raleigh, and is accessible via U.S. Route 421. In addition to its main campus, the university has a campus in Raleigh and two satellite campuses at Fort Bragg & Pope and Camp Lejeune. Campbell University also offers online classes.
Founded on January 5, 1887, as Buies Creek Academy, the institution was later known as Campbell Junior College (1926–1961) and Campbell College (1961–1979). The university’s athletic teams are called the Campbell Fighting Camels. Barker-Lane Stadium, located at 558 Wade Stewart Road on campus, serves as the home venue for the football and women’s lacrosse teams.
Campbell University offers more than 15 academic departments, including the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, the School of Education & Human Sciences, the School of Engineering, the School of Law, and the School of Osteopathic Medicine. The university lies at the heart of the village of Buies Creek, near the Cape Fear River and north of Harnett Regional Jetport.
Notable alumni include professional basketball players Eric Griffin and Chris Clemons, professional golfer Michelle Koh, professional baseball player Ryan Thompson, First Lady of North Carolina from 2017 to 2025 Kristin Cooper, Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green, and others.
