The downtown of the city is located in the southeastern corner of the municipal area and includes the districts like City View, Rio Vista, Tarpon River, Lauderdale Harbor, and others. The towns of Lauderhill, Sunrise, Plantation, Tamarac, and Lauder Lakes are the largest neighborhoods of Fort Lauderdale. There is a large natural park, Everglades Wildlife Management Area - Water Conservation Area, situated just about a dozen miles west of the city center. Fort Lauderdale is not just a beach resort, but also a desired destination for cruise ships which come to the city from all the continents.
