Located in the town of Urbana, at the southern tip of Keuka Lake, northeast of Bath, Hammondsport is a small village with a total area of 0.36 sq mi (0.95 km2). It was founded around 1827 and incorporated in 1856. Hammondsport was the center of the wine industry with numerous wineries. The village is home to Pleasant Valley Wine Company, which is a historic winery founded on March 15, 1860. It is also the first bonded winery in the country. Local attractions are Glenn H Curtiss Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, Windmill Farm & Craft Market, Watkins Glen Speedway Finger Lakes Trail System, and NYS Wine Museum. Wineries in the village include Bully Hill Vineyards, Dr. Franks Vinifera Wine Cellars, Heron Hill Winery, Hunt Country Vineyards, Keuka Spring Vineyards, and so on. The village is the birthplace of Glenn Curtiss who was an American aviator and a leading manufacturer of the U.S. aircraft industry.
