Milan, Ohio: Birthplace of Thomas Edison

Milan, formerly known as Beatty, is a village in northern Ohio, United States, located within Erie County and Huron County on the banks of the Huron River. It was incorporated in 1833 and named after the city in northern Italy. The village earned its nickname from being the birthplace of the famous inventor, Thomas Edison. It is part of the Sandusky metropolitan area, located 13 miles southeast of Sandusky and 57 miles southwest of Cleveland. U.S. Route 250 passes through the village, and it is also served by State Routes 113 and 601.

Thomas Alva Edison Birthplace
The Thomas Alva Edison Birthplace, located at 9 Edison Drive (latitude 41.300000, longitude -82.604444), is a historic house museum with a gift shop. Thomas Edison was born in this house on February 11, 1847. It was built by his father, Samuel Edison, in 1841, and the family lived there until 1854. After the inventor's death in 1931, the house was turned into a museum by his wife and daughter. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966, and the building is also a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
