Hickory, NC, USA

Hickory is a city in North Carolina, USA, situated within Catawba County, in the western part of the state, and 58 miles northwest of Charlotte. It was incorporated in 1870 and named after the Hickory Tavern. It is the principal and the largest city of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Interstate 40 and U.S. Routes 70 and 321, North Carolina Highways 16 and 127 are major highways serving the city. The Hickory Regional Airport also serves the area. Local attractions include Catawba Science Center, Hickory Aviation Museum, Geitner Park, Kiwanis Park, Hickory Museum of Art, Hickory Landmarks Society, Harper House/Hickory History Center, L.P. Frans Stadium, Old Hickory Tavern Birthplace of Hickory, Hickory Community Theatre, and Carolina Movie Theater. The city is home to several educational institutions, such as Lenoir-Rhyne University, a campus of Appalachian State University, and Catawba Valley Community College.
