Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey

Kadıköy is a lively and popular district of Istanbul, Turkey, consisting of 21 neighbourhoods. It is located on the Anatolian side of the city, along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, and lies about 34 kilometers from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. Kadıköy is known for its wide variety of eateries, shops, cafes, bars, boutiques, antique stores, street art, murals, and bookshops. The district includes several attractive residential areas such as Moda, Bostancı, Fenerbahçe, Kozyatağı, Caddebostan, and Göztepe. Kadıköy also offers stunning views of notable landmarks on the European side of Istanbul across the sea. It is bordered by Üsküdar to the northwest, Maltepe to the southeast, and Ataşehir to the northeast.

Kadıköy is served by an advanced transportation network that includes metro lines, buses, Marmaray, and nostalgic trams. It is home to Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, the home ground of Fenerbahçe SK. The district is also an important educational hub, hosting several major institutions such as Marmara University, Doğuş University, and Yeditepe University.

There are many iconic landmarks and tourist attractions in Kadıköy. Haydarpaşa Railway Station, opened on 22 September 1872, is one of the city’s most historic transport hubs. The Kadıköy Bull Statue is one of the district’s best-known landmarks and today serves as a local mascot as well as a popular photo spot. Süreyya Opera House, located on General Asım Gündüz Street in Bahariye, was opened on 6 March 1927 and designed by Kegham Kavafyan. It remains one of the most important cultural venues in the district. Another notable historic building is the Whittall Mansion in Moda, which now serves as a museum dedicated to legendary Turkish rock musician Barış Manço.
