Kinston is a city in North Carolina, United States, within Lenoir County and 83 miles southeast of Raleigh. The area was originally inhabited by the Neusiok before English colonists came. It serves as the county seat. Kinston received the All-America City Award in 2019. The city has many historic buildings and sites. Hotel Kinston, located at 503 N. Queen Street, was built between 1927 and 1928, and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 8, 1989. Harmony Hall, situated at 109 East King Street, is the oldest building in Kinston, which was owned by Richard Caswell, North Carolina's first governor. It was built in 1772 and added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 26, 1971.
The city is served by Kinston Regional Jetport, U.S. Routes 70 and 258, as well as North Carolina Highways 11, 58, 55, and 148. Local attractions include Grainger Hill Performing Arts, Sarah Crawford Historic House, Grainger Stadium, Neuseway Nature Park, Lions Water Adventure, Confederate States Ship Neuse II, and CSS Neuse Museum.
