Muskogee, OK, USA

Muskogee is a large city in Oklahoma, United States, located on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 49 miles southeast of Tulsa. It serves as the county seat of Muskogee County and is known by nicknames such as "Oklahoma's River City" and "The Skoge". The city was founded on March 16, 1898, and developed near the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad in the late 19th century.

Muskogee gained national attention through its 47th mayor, John Tyler Hammons, who served from 2008 to 2012. Elected at the age of 19, he became one of the youngest mayors in United States history.

Situated in the Arkansas River Valley, Muskogee benefits from a strategic location and is served by several major highways, including U.S. Routes 62, 64, and 69, as well as Oklahoma State Highways 16, 165, and 351. Muskogee-Davis Regional Airport also serves the area. The city has an inland port, the Port of Muskogee, supporting regional trade and commerce. Muskogee is an economic hub of the area, with key employers such as a Georgia-Pacific tissue plant.

Cultural and historical attractions include the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, located at 1101 Honor Heights Drive. Housed in a 19th-century building, the museum is dedicated to the art and culture of the Five Civilized Tribes. Another notable site is the Grant Foreman Home at 1419 West Okmulgee Avenue, a historic building added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on September 19, 1973. Honor Heights Park is a popular destination for both locals and visitors. The park features an arboretum, a botanical garden, a playground, a lake, tennis courts, and an event venue that hosts festivals and community events. The Five Civilized Tribes Museum is also located within the park. Other tourist attractions include the Three Rivers Museum, the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, Roxy Theater, Apex Cinema Muskogee, and the Muskogee Little Theatre.
