New Brunswick, nicknamed "Hub City" or "Healthcare City," is a city in New Jersey, United States, located on the banks of the Raritan River and 36 miles southwest of New York City. It serves as the seat of Middlesex County. New Brunswick Station, U.S. Route 1 and Route 18 serve the city. It is best known as being home to Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Situated in the Raritan Valley, New Brunswick was founded on December 30, 1730, and incorporated on September 1, 1784. The city is bordered by North Brunswick to the south, Edison across the Raritan River to the north, East Franklin to the east, and Piscataway to the north. The city is home to the main campus of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
