New Commanders Stadium is a planned $3.7 billion stadium in Washington, D.C., United States, located at 2400 East Capitol Street SE on the banks of the Anacostia River near the Whitney Young Memorial Bridge. It is situated about 4 miles east of the city center and can be easily reached via the Stadium-Armory Subway Station. Also known as New RFK Stadium, it will be an indoor stadium and will serve as the home of the NFL’s Washington Commanders.
The stadium will be built on the site of Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, commonly known as RFK Stadium. RFK Stadium was in operation from 1961 to 2019 and hosted baseball and football games as well as legendary musicians such as Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, and the Rolling Stones. The Beatles also performed at the stadium in 1966. In addition, it hosted several major events, including MLB All-Star Games, FIFA World Cup matches, and MLS Cups.
New Commanders Stadium will be designed by HKS and will have a seating capacity of 65,000. Once completed, it will be one of the most expensive stadiums ever constructed. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and is planned to be completed in 2030.
