Oskaloosa, nicknamed "Osky", is a large city in Iowa, United States, situated 60 miles southeast of Des Moines. It is the county seat of Mahaska County. It was incorporated on February 4, 1875. Coal mining was the main industry in Oskaloosa at the beginning of the 20th century. The city is home to William Penn University and the Southern Iowa Fair. The Mahaska County Courthouse in Oskaloosa has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1981. The building was built in 1886.
