Powell River is a city in British Columbia, Canada, located in the southwestern part of the province. It is an isolated place surrounded by ocean and mountains. The city is served by Powell River (Westview) Ferry Terminal, Saltery Bay Ferry Terminal, and Powell River Airport. The city was founded in 1912, named for Israel Wood Powell, and incorporated in 1955. The Powell River Kings, a junior "A" ice hockey team, is based in the city. It is also home to a campus of Vancouver Island University.
