Saint Marys City is a historic town and archaeological research area in southern Maryland, United States, located on the St Marys River. It is home to St. Mary's College of Maryland. The town is known as the first colony and capital of the state (1634-1695). It was founded by Leonard Calvert on March 27, 1634. It is one of the oldest English settlements in the United States. St. Mary's City Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1969. It was also designated as a National Historic Landmark District on August 4, 1969.
