The community of Sainte-Catherine can be found in the southernmost part of the province of Quebec, eastern Canada. It is one of the numerous suburbs of Montreal city, situated off the island of Montreal, facing the River of St. Laurence from the southern banks of it. As the historical evidence shows, the region has been inhabited since the early 17th century by local population, and later on - by groups of French colonizers of the continent. After a merge of a few smaller towns, in 1930s the city of Sainte-Catherine was formed and received the corresponding status. Today, it is a large French speaking community with the number of residents close to 17 thousand people.
