Sanford Stadium, officially known as Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium, is located on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia, and has served as the home of the Georgia Bulldogs (NCAA) since it opened on October 12, 1929. With a seating capacity of approximately 93,000, it ranks among the largest American football stadiums in the United States. Named for Steadman Vincent Sanford, former University of Georgia president (1932–1935), the venue features a natural grass playing surface and the stadium’s signature privet hedges. It is also one of the few college stadiums with an east-west-oriented field.
Over the decades, Sanford Stadium has hosted numerous notable events, including competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics.
