A city in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States, Shamokin is the center of a coal mining region in central Pennsylvania and adjacent Coal Township. The town is home to the culm bank at Cameron Colliery/Glen Burn Colliery, the largest man-made culm bank in the world. It is a historic town where Thomas Edison founded the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Shamokin in November 1882. There was an interesting historic theater in the town, the Victoria Theatre, which was designed by William Harold Lee and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, but it was demolished in 1998 and delisted in 2004. It has a few points of interest like a public swimming pool, Lawton W. Shroyer Memorial Swimming Pool.
