Socorro, NM, USA

Socorro is a city in Socorro County, New Mexico, United States, located in the Rio Grande Valley and 75 miles south of Albuquerque. It is bordered by Escondida to the north. It serves as the county seat. It was settled at the end of the 16th century by Spanish immigrants. Socorro Municipal Airport, U.S. Route 60 and Interstate 25 serve the area. Local attractions include New Mexico Bureau of Geology Mineral Museum, Otero Park, Socorro Singletrack Trails, Frank T. Etscorn Campus Observatory, Garcia Opera House, Socorro Heritage and Visitor Center, Socorro Official Scenic Historic Markers, San Miguel de Socorro, the Box Recreation Area, and Hammel Museum. Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge and Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge are also located nearby.
