An independent city in east-central Missouri, United States, Saint Louis, or St. Louis is located along the Mississippi River on the state border with Illinois. Known as the Gateway to the West, the Lou, and the Rome of the West, the city was founded on February 14, 1764, and incorporated in 1809. Greater St. Louis is the largest metropolitan area in Missouri as well as the second-largest in Illinois. St. Louis is an important economic, cultural, and educational center in the state. - The Old St. Louis County Courthouse was constructed in 1816 and was the tallest structure in Missouri with a height of 192 ft (59 m) from 1864 to 1894. Old Courthouse was listed on the NRHP on October 15, 1966.
- The Gateway Arch is a famous landmark in St. Louis and a National Historic Landmark, located on 100 Washington Avenue. It was built from 1963 to 1965, designed by Eero Saarinen, and inaugurated on June 10, 1967.
- Busch Stadium, a popular baseball stadium in St. Louis, is situated at 700 Clark Avenue. It was opened in 2006 and is the home ground of the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB). The stadium also hosts concerts, professional soccer and hockey games, and college football.

- The Missouri Botanical Garden is a popular tourist attraction in St. Louis, located at 4344 Shaw Boulevard. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on November 19, 1971, and is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. It is known as the second-largest botanical garden in North America.
- The Wainwright Building was built in 1891, designed by Adler & Sullivan. It was added to the NRHP on May 23, 1968. It is an important landmark as an early example of the modern office building. The building is located at 709 Chestnut Street in downtown St. Louis.
- The Delmar Loop is a famous tourist spot with its restaurants, cafes, pubs, theaters, venues, shops, and street art. University City Public Library, University City City Hall, and Tivoli Theater are on the Delmar Loop.
