The town of Stonington is located in New London County, southeastern Connecticut, United States. It contains the villages of Lords Point, Wequetequock, and Pawcatuck, as well as the halves of Mystic and Old Mystic, and the borough of Stonington. Settled in 1649 by the Europeans, established in 1662, the town was originally inhabited by the Pequot people. There are several sites in the town that were listed on the National Register of Historic Places, such as Capt. Nathaniel B. Palmer House, Pequotsepos Manor, Mystic Bridge Historic District, Mechanic Street Historic District, and Stonington Harbor Light. Stonington was used as a filming location for the 1988 movie "Mystic Pizza". "Hope Springs" starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones was also filmed in Stonington. Tourist attractions in the town include The Stonington Lighthouse Museum, Stonington Point, Dubois Beach, Stonington Town Dock and Memorial, Stonington Free Library, Walkers Marina, The Velvet Mill, and Hoffman Preserve (Avalonia).
