Thane, Maharashtra, India

One of the largest and most populous neighboring cities of Mumbai, Thane is located in the western part of the state of Maharashtra, in western India. Known as the “City of Lakes”, it is also one of the most important tourism centers in the region. Thane is situated about a dozen miles northeast of Mumbai’s city center, on the northeastern part of Salsette Island. The city covers an area of about 60 square miles and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the region. It is divided into 15 sub-districts and is considered one of the safest, most modern, and well-developed residential areas in the state. 

Thane lies about 90 miles southwest of Nashik, around 350 miles southwest of Indore, and just over 700 miles southwest of New Delhi. It is mainly known as a major transportation hub, easily accessible by air, road, rail, and water.

The city is built along the banks of the Ulhas River and is known for its numerous bridges, including the Gamon Company Bridge and Kasheli Bridge, along with several smaller ones. Benefiting from a relative lack of heavy industrial activity, Thane is known for its clean air, modern architecture, parks and lakes, as well as its theaters, museums, and other cultural institutions. Residents of Thane enjoy access to a full range of modern social services, including quality educational and healthcare facilities available throughout the city.
