The University of Greenwich is a public university located in south London, England, based at the Old Royal Naval College on the banks of the River Thames. The campus sits within the UNESCO-listed Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, in the southeastern part of Greater London. Established in 1890 as Woolwich Polytechnic, the institution was known as Thames Polytechnic between 1970 and 1992. Today, the university offers academic programs in fields such as engineering, business, mathematics, maritime studies, social sciences, and education.

While its main campus is located at the Old Royal Naval College, the University of Greenwich also delivers courses through around 200 partner schools and colleges across Greater London, Kent, and surrounding counties, including Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, and Essex.

Greenwich Campus occupies the historic Old Royal Naval College, originally known as Greenwich Hospital and designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The campus is surrounded by major landmarks and attractions such as the Painted Hall, the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, the Prime Meridian, Cutty Sark, Queen’s House, and Greenwich Market, along with several memorials and statues. It is easily accessible by bus, river ferry, and rail services, and is just 10 minutes from central London.

Notable alumni include Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, novelist Liam Brown, actor John Boyega, former professional footballer Leo Fortune-West, journalist Pablo Daniel Magee, former Olympic sprinter Ann Packer, politician Gareth Thomas, and author Joel Willans.
