Venice (Venezia) is an amazingly beautiful historic city and the center of the Metropolitan City of Venice, located on 118 islands scattered across the inshore area of the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy. The city was established around the 5th century AD, and since then it has been a key educational, cultural, commercial, and tourism center of the region, as well as a venue for numerous concerts, festivals, fairs, and other events.

Venice was once one of the main ports of the region, which is why it was controlled by various empires and rulers over the centuries. During the Middle Ages, the city became one of the most important centers of enlightenment and cultural development, with many painters and artists working there.

Today, Venice is a major center of tourism and shopping, famous for landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square, numerous cathedrals and bridges, beautiful canals and gondolas, as well as its carnivals and cultural events.
