Wasilla is a large city in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, in the U.S. state of Alaska, located in the Matanuska Valley and 44 miles northeast of Anchorage. It has a few lakes including Wasilla Lake and Lake Lucille. Incorporated on February 26, 1974 and named after Chief Wasilla, the city was founded at the junction of the Alaska Railroad and Old Carle Wagon Road. Wasilla is home to the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry which was founded in 1967. The city is served by Wasilla Airport. Mat-Su Regional Medical Center is also situated close to the city. There are some historical landmarks in Wasilla, such as the Wasilla Depot which was built in 1917 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Other points of interest include Wasilla Museum & Visitor Center, Alaska Live Steamers Museum, Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center, The Valley Cinema, Carter Park, and Newcomb Park.
