West Bengal, India

West Bengal is one of the states of India, located in the eastern part of the country, near the border with Bangladesh. It is bordered by Bangladesh and the Indian state of Assam to the east, by Bhutan and the state of Sikkim to the north, by Nepal and the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha to the west, and by the Bay of Bengal to the south. West Bengal is the center of Bengali culture, with Kolkata serving as both the capital and the largest city of the state.

West Bengal is part of eastern India, with states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura located further to the east. The state covers an area of about 34,500 square miles and stretches from north to south, showing a high level of geographical diversity. It includes major natural features such as the Ganges River delta, the Sundarbans region with its many small islands, the Darjeeling Himalayan hill area, and the large metropolitan region of Kolkata.

The largest cities in West Bengal include Kolkata, as well as Kharagpur, Durgapur, Siliguri, Asansol, Rampurhat, Berhampore, and Malda, among others. The state is well known for its rich local culture and numerous long-standing traditions closely connected to the heritage of the Bengali people.
