Starring Jürgen Prochnow, Herbert Grönemeyer, Klaus Wennemann, Hubertus Bengsch, Martin Semmelrogge, Bernd Tauber, Erwin Leder, Heinz Hoenig, Martin May, and Uwe Ochsenknecht, the series was released in 1985 and consisted of 3 episodes, won the 1985 International Emmy Awards for "Drama". Das Boot was shot in Bodensee, Bavaria, Germany and La Pallice, La Rochelle, France. Filming also took place at Bavaria Studios.
