The Wind that Shakes the Barley is an excellent war drama movie directed by Ken Loach, written by Paul Laverty. Starring Cillian Murphy, Pádraic Delaney, Liam Cunningham, Orla Fitzgerald, Mary O'Riordan, Frank Bourke, Mary Murphy, and Laurence Barry, the film follows the story of two brothers during the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. The film takes its name from an Irish ballad written by Robert Dwyer Joyce and features the song in one scene. Considered one of the greatest films of Ken Loach, it won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The Wind that Shakes the Barley was primarily shot in County Cork, Ireland. Some filming took place at Kilmainham Gaol which is a former prison, where Irish revolutionaries and leaders were imprisoned and executed.
