Chengalpattu (செங்கல்பட்டு), formerly known as Chingleput, is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Nicknamed the Gateway of Chennai, it is the headquarters of Chengalpattu district, located in the eastern part of the country on the banks of Kolovai Lake and 61 kilometers south of Chennai. The city plays a role as an important tourist spot as well as a cultural, educational, and commercial hub. The city is home to Rajeswari Vedachalam Government Arts College, Government Law College, and Chengalpattu Medical College. The Chennai Airport is situated about 40 kilometers north of the city. Chengalpattu Railway Station also serves the area.
